I would like to address the disingenuous way many people are comparing the Capitol riot and the BLM protests from this summer. Anyone who engages in even the slightest amount of critical thought knows that these occurrences are not fruit born of the same tree.
In America, we have a long history of peaceful protest. It is part of our origin story and protecting that privilege is covered in our founding documents.
Our rule of law is not supposed to afford cover to those engaged in armed insurrection, especially those dedicated to overthrowing our government.
What we are witnessing now is consistent with our history of domestic terrorism. One of the reasons it existed for so long in the South is because those who practiced terrorism were protected by people in positions of power.
These people, who were supposed to be dedicated to the country and the common good, were in essence, the co-conspirators and enablers of the terrorists. They protected them for a variety of reasons.
Some agreed with the beliefs of the terrorists. Others were too afraid of them to push back against them. Regardless of the motives, the results were the same - traitors and terrorists were emboldened and protected.
Fast-forward to today and we see that same phenomenon taking place. People in positions of authority who should have spoken up years ago and did not, now are minimizing what took place this week. We must not allow them to do so. This was not normal behavior.
This was not a traditional, peaceful means of protest. This is treason. The BLM protests were not treason. They were as American as it comes. Their root goal was not anarchy or to overthrow the outcome of a rightful election.
Do not allow the narrative to be hijacked by those who do not want to acknowledge their role in creating the environment that produced this abomination. We must fight our way back from this cliff. We can hold our elected officials accountable and demand that
the traitors be punished as such. That is what patriots would do. They would uphold the Constitution and demand that others do too. That is what all of us should want done. This is the moment fo colorblind justice.
