A THREAD. Since it’s #SupercarSaturday, here’s a stunning pic of the Bahama Yellow ’70 Aston Martin DBS driven by Roger Moore in the ITV series ’The Persuaders!’ (’71-72). #AnorakFact: the car had a straight-6 engine but it ran on V8 wheels & carried V8 badges. (1/6)
The car’s numberplate - distinctive back then & somewhat regrettable to modern eyes - indicated Brett Sinclair, the character played by Roger Moore. #AnorakFact: it wore BS1 in every episode except ’The Gold Napoleon’, in which its actual UK numberplate, PPP 6H, is visible. (2/6)
#AnorakFact: for the filming of ’The Persuaders!’, ITV borrowed the numberplate BS1 from its actual owner, circus impresario Billy Smart Jr (pic), who had it on his Roller at the time. (3/6)
#AnorakFact: ’The Persuaders!’ star Roger Moore autographed the underside of his character’s Aston Martin DBS’s boot lid (or trunk lid, if you’re reading in the USA) at Pinewood Studios, Buckinghamshire, in May 2003. Pic: Moore filming in the car with co-star Tony Curtis. (4/6)
#AnorakFacts: the ’70 Aston Martin DBS used in ’The Peruaders!’ was sold by Bonhams in 2014 for £533,500 including premium; the year before, it had been a star of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy (pic). (5/6)
