BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BLM RIOTS?

Good morning. I’ve seen lots of folks making accusations of “hypocrisy”by comparing the Captiol insurrection with the BLM protests earlier this year. Such a comparison is a false equivalency. Here’s why. A thread:
First, and most importantly CAUSE of each was remarkably different. The Black Lives Matter protests earlier this year were sparked by the murder of an unarmed Black person by police. This was not an isolated incident; it was another example in a long pattern of racial injustice.
In contrast to the legitimate grievances underlying the BLM protests, the Capitol insurrection was based on the complete and total lie of a rigged election. The claims of widespread election fraud have been repeatedly debunked.
The Black Lives Matter protests were about demanding justice and equality for a long-mistreated group of of people. The Capitol insurrection was about overturning a free and fair election to maintain white supremacy.
One more small difference: while the allegations that the Capitol insurrection was carried about by “antifa” in disguise are entirely without evidence, at least some of the destruction in the BLM riots actually was caused by white supremacists trying to discredit the movement.
