Ok so I need to get something off my chest.. Its something I do go on about a lot.
Its equality. This country has in built inequalities that need addressing.
Its the 21st century for crying out loud. Yet it seems, especially in the past few years, all the 'phobias have..

Absolutely skyrocketed. Islamaphobia. Homophobia. Transphobia (especially close to my heart). Also of course racism.
Hate crimes keep increasing, that can't just be attributed to an increase in people coming forward.
NONE of it is excusable. It all makes zero sense.

At a basic level we are all the same. Human beings. We all deserve the same equal rights. You shouldn't have to start each day wondering if you're going to face discrimination just because of something such as the colour of your skin or gender or sexuality. It's just WRONG.
I work in a workplace with colleagues from many walks of life. Honestly it really makes things better. It allows a richness of experience that people can bring to the team. Also I've had some really interesting conversations about other cultures and beliefs.
I feel priviledged to be able to have this experience of listening to and learning about others.
However despite all the advancement we've made over decades equality is still not there.
To be honest I want to talk about the thing I feel most qualified to address.

Transphobia. This country is rife with it. Absolutely rife.
To be quite honest with stats being as they are I see me experiencing a hate crime as an inevitability rather than a "what if". I am also unsure if I can find justice for that.

The thing that makes me optimistic is that I know most people support trans folks in the public. The trouble is that it's engrained in the institutional fabric of this country. Its in the mass media we read. It's in the laws, in the healthcare inequalities.
Papers have resorted to spinning untruths just to sell. Despite the equality act its incredibly hard to adjust documentation without cost and pathologisation. Waits for healthcare are incredibly long. Also trans peoples experiences are not great overall in healthcare.
Disclaimer here that I'm lucky that my employers as a healthcare body and healthcare providers have been incredibly supportive, but I know its not there for everyone. Indeed I've seen reports that some employers simply wouldn't employ trans people.
The result of this is some horrifying mental health statistics.
Big CW here
On average one in two trans folks have attempted suicide. The self harm stats are just as bad. It's truly heartbreaking. Just trying to get up in the day is an achievement. Heck even twitter doesnt

Police transphobia. The government equality minister is in bed with horrific transphobic organisations and right wing LGBT-phobic organisations it seems. The whole thing is an absolute horror story. We are painted with the same brush as with 1980s homophobia and before that
Racism. Somehow wrong or predators that could prey on people. The whole thing is just recycled over decades.
Im a medical professional, the idea of doing harm to someone is simply abhorrent to me. I don't care if people like me or not, if they are needing help they get it.

We are just trying to exist and mind our own business. We are a TINY minority of the population and the reality is we are not any threat to anyone. Indeed we are more likely to be the victims of horrific hate crimes and violence.
I'm going to end this long rant with a good thread by the wonderful @WhatTheTrans. It details the transphobia in the uk
