Every time I see this famous tracking shot from Wings (1927), my mind boggles. Even though I know how it was done, the sheer artistry of it beggars belief.

For those of you who are interested, it was done with a suspended camera rig.

And, yes, that IS a lesbian couple at one of those tables. Wings was groundbreaking in so many ways. It also features the first ever male same-sex kiss in Hollywood history.

Inspired by all your lovely comments about Wings, I’ve just done a little sketch of the famous kissing scene. It’s such a moving moment in the film.
