We know lockdown has been a challenge for everyone but parents & carers ("guardians") have had additional stress if their child became poorly.
Seeking help was often balanced against a fear of being exposed to #COVID19 & not wanting to use an already under pressure #NHS

Many organisations raised concerns about delayed presentations to hospital but we know overall mortality in children was not higher in 2020 and that while some harm occurred this wasn't frequent. In fact guardians have done a very impressive job of dealing with their child’s minor illness & injury at home.
As we enter a further lockdown there is an opportunity to celebrate how well guardians played a role in helping healthcare services manage the first wave.

The #NHS is ALWAYS open for guardians with concerns but if children can be managed at home appropriately this will enable staff to concentrate on the most unwell patients who are presenting.
The Operation Ouch presenters: @DoctorChrisVT, @xandvt & @Dr_Ronx have produced some short video clips on common minor injuries & illnesses that provide pragmatic and easy to follow advice.
The style of the videos is aimed at children but are designed to be watched by families and contain “grown-up alerts” to highlight key points.
The information in the videos is in keeping with national guidance and is balanced to ensure that parents are neither unnecessarily scared, or falsely reassured, by the symptoms discussed.
These videos not only provide an additional resource that will help the NHS through a difficult spring but are a thank you to guardians as we all appreciate that lockdown is a challenging situation for families.
So to kick things off please find the first #NHSExplainer on Head Injuries
Videos are hosted by @Health_2gether & are now all available but I'll share them individually over the course of this week.
Whether a guardian or professional please do share!
