Companies that collectively control the information flow for 3 billion people

Companies, without which, modern life is impossible.

These companies have just announced they are in control of the US political system

This isn't the corner grocer capitalism our parents grew up with.

This is a networked world. These companies have a stranglehold on small business formation/success. Our access to the public square Our ability to find/get a job. Our access to personal communications.

Phone companies have legal status as “common carriers”; this was basically an arrangement that said that they could not interfere with or even monitor traffic they carry in exchange for being exempted from being held legally responsible for the content of that traffic.

By deleting tweets they are curating content on their platforms which makes them publishers and not an open forum, therefore they should have no protections from being sued as such.
It’s really not that complicated.

These are communications monopolies / oligopolies. They should be open protocols.
