Whatever you think of the de-Trumpification of social media, I think it is now clear that social media is a net negative for any society that prizes some form of social cohesion and stability. We are long past the point where it was useful

I look at Britain where I live and America, a country I love, and there is simply nothing that can act as a glue to close the divisions in society anymore. Even if a foreign country were to drop a bomb on America today, people will find a way to be divided about it on Twitter
