SEO @Pickyourtrail, a thread - First the results - ~15x increase in sessions and leads over 3 months.. Sharing some things that I think helped us..
1. Interlinking - getting our products - guides, blogs, other pages to talk to each other 1/n
that way google maybe felt we were helping users discover content more easily.. all the blocks that you see below and the blogs were thanks to interlinking. we similarly put in various links across the product

2. new pages for mid-tail keywords - while there is talk on 2/n
longtail keywords, I believe there is a lot of juice in the torso. its not as difficult as the head, but the impact is also not as low as the tail. Having said this we had decent traffic from Long tail that may have helped us break in torso easier..
3. going after head KWs - 3/n
while the competition is crazy, getting even within top 10 can add significant traffic. from there on every incremental increase exponentially increases traffic. getting this model in your head and team is critical to visualise *potential impact*
4. Content & intent mapping 4/n
blogs are great for inspiration and are casual reads, optimising blogs for keywords at the later stages of the funnel maybe difficult. high intent KWs r best optimised on pages closest to your desired $ txn action.

somethings I learnt along the way 5/n
1. excel skills are highly under-rated - bulk of SEO work is actually in excels. I have in the past worked with 2-3 agencies and approach was not quant led. but a few video searches on YT and USA/UK SEO experts are talking about python scripts to update excels. 6/n
2. you play not to lose, you dont play to win. SEO is a long game. by doing the right things consistently and ensuring you dont lose your position, you end up gaining ranks, cos competition will make a mistake. patience is under-rated
3. SEO takes long is a myth. like every other function you need small wins. while breaking into top 10 of the no 1 vol KW can take a few months, you can easily create wins in month 1/2 and all that adds up to the larger vol KW.
4. SEO is not an experiment you run - you cannot change focus KWs by the quarter. SEO is channelising intent that exists in the www to your product/service. Invest tech/product/and if needed founder mindspace - but make it count :)
