@JonahDispatch I was initially horrified by Trump. As my opinion changed, I remained a fan of yours due to my fondness for your book, Liberal Fascism. I know you have heard “he was on our side” and “he fought for us.” https://twitter.com/jonahdispatch/status/1346891127966715904
What I think you and others are missing is that you didn’t fight for us and you didn’t seem upset by the characterizations being made. I don’t mean thoughts on policy or teaching. Valuable, but these things were not missing. The media and liberal politicians define Conservatives
as racist, homophobes, sexist, haters, stupid, etc. After all - we want grandma to die. We hate the poor. It was said blatantly by liberal commentators and politicians. The contempt seeped out of the rest of the culture.
I believe that you and others think that these comments were just stupid things that people, (who you know to be nice people) said. You would debate or provide commentary, but did you ever get offended on our behalf? You were offended by Trump, but you and others I saw never
showed any sign that you were morally offended on our behalf. Even if you said the right words, your demeanor did not match how insulting their conclusions were. Why would it? You knew that they didn’t mean you. You were at the very least professional colleagues, if not friends.
You were morally outraged by Trump. Were you honestly ever outraged by what your friends were either directly saying or implying about us? Trump is. Rand is. Cruz is. Rush is. Tucker is.
When/if things calm down I will probably return to reading your thoughts. Sadly feel the need to add what I would have thought overly dramatic a few years ago - I will return to reading your thoughts, If you are still allowed to publish them.
