Populism isn’t about giving people what they want, it’s about giving them what they need. Anti-populist sentiment of the kind we so often see is really a hatred for the degraded and commodified populism which has emerged in the era of neoliberal technocapital.
Neither is populism about seeking solutions from the common man, but providing to the common man those solutions which will actually benefit him and his people.
Populism and elitism go hand in hand. To weigh one or the other too heavily is too alienate and estrange the whole of society.
To direct one’s hatred at the masses is to obscure the fact that one truly hates the masters
