Sometimes when I’m refusing to fall asleep at midnight, I wind up reading very random Wikipedia pages. Some of it is esoteric but some might be interesting. Should I make a thread as I go?
For instance, when I was trying to read more about how the aliens did Stonehenge, I discovered an archaeologist named John Lubbock was involved in research there. He had about a million professions, one of which is my own. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lubbock,_1st_Baron_Avebury
His brother was a famous cricket player in the 1860s and 1870s: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Lubbock

Other brother was a soccer and cricket player: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Lubbock

And down the rabbit hole we go... This is how my brain works and why I can’t go to sleep early.
Reading about historical figures also provides some cool artwork. Here’s a caricature of John Lubbock and one of his brothers.
Now I’m wondering if our favorite Norfolk city councilwoman is related to this family since several of them went into English politics. Anyway, this is why I’m up late every night.

Blockbuster made the wrong move at every turn. Opted not to buy a cable company in the 90s, partnered with Enron, and didn’t buy Netflix for $50M in 2000 (but paid its CEO more than that in 2004). Had 84,000 employees in 2004, 3 today.

Four widows of American Civil War vets are known to have lived into the 21st century. The last one just died in December. One of them married her deceased husband’s grandson once she was widowed.

A group that wants to overthrow Kim Jong Un raided the North Korean embassy in Madrid in 2019. They stole phones, laptops, & hard drives & turned them over to the CIA. When Spanish police showed up, the group leader fled in an Uber and is still at large.

A Canadian lumberjack claimed to be held captive by a family of Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) in the 1920s.

Zoomed with this guy today. Had some interesting war stories including serving as ambassador to NATO on 9/11. Condoleezza Rice told him he could invoke Article 5 (declaration of war). Burns wanted to hear it from W.

Rice: “He’s had a rough day. Do it.”
