We need someone with expertise in cults to give us insight into what happens when the people with a grip on the cult all get taken out quickly.

And I think there is even less of a precedent for a cult where an original leader had a very strong psychological grip; was then taken out; and then someone took their place and held the cult together.
Seems more likely the cult splinters and shrinks.
