The idea that we don't understand Republicans or Trump voters is a myth. We know who they are. We know what they want. We know what they are afraid of. The problem is that their *execution* of those things involves oppression of others and a suspense of reality. Nah fam
You may not have spent XXXX amount of time dealing, diving in, and fleshing out their nonsense. I have. The fears they have that are reasonable? Everyone has those. They aren't unique to their experience in American society. It's the solutions that are ridiculous.
Don't know your place in society because of consolidated wealth, limited upward mobility, limited economic security?

Actual problem? Late-stage capitalism without social infrastructure.

Trumper's view of problem? Immigrants.
Chronic loneliness and smaller friend groups in total but especially for men?

Actual problem? Toxic masculinity limiting what's "okay" and putting personal comfort in a hierarchy

A Trumpers view? Feminism
A large part of the problem is that the loneliness has been replaced by ideology

It isn't "I support Trump" it is "I AM a Trump supporter" so if an idea is wrong....they hear "You are fundamentally wrong".

Which, even if true, is hell of a hump to get over
These are the same dynamics of healthy/toxic shame that come with addiction and decisions. From "I made a mistake" to "I am a mistake" and the difference in framing is vital in personal growth. These folks have spent years building their own reality.
It takes work, and integration into healthier environments to grow out of it.

Do I think leftists should have to provide them? Hell no. In most cases, this is uncomfortable if not outright dangerous. I think this is on them. We can't drag them to reality unwilling.
I don't mind having these convos because I'm used to them....and occasionally someone aggressive will fuck around and find out. But they are going to need to happen and it's going to take time. This crazy is engrained in these folks. Getting out of a cult takes effort.
