at the heart of a lot of dumb discourse online is the bizarre notion that ideas (bad or good) just float around in the ether and attach themselves to people somehow and that people can be reduced to those ideas until an outside agent comes along and gifts them the right ideas
'organizing' then is simply finding people with the right ideas and counting them among anointed. in reality everybody is a strange brew of conflicted ideas that come from a ton of different social/personal factors that, in the last instance, derive from their material reality
the gambit, for communists at least, is that there is something in the shared experience of producing and reproducing society (and ourselves) that transcends our differences and, in fact, seeks to understand and celebrate those differences through a universal project for freedom
history shows that the way unity within difference is forged is through our self-activity, our own collective struggle to transcend our own atomization and exploitation. that overcoming does not derive from right ideas online, but from practical activity as a class
there are some (many) people who are too far gone to join this project, who for whatever reason have fortified themselves against a viscous world with chauvinism and hate. they should be shunned. but it is through collective action that those who still have humanity can be found
