I see a few lefties crying about Trump’s “censorship”. Coincidentally they’re the same ones who have little problem with actual censorship in places like China/Iran/Russia. Again, debate the implications but Twitter is a private company. They can kick any user off at any time. 1/
Pretending Twitter is a public space, a beacon of free speech, is ridiculous. It is not. On top of that, speech that incites violence is not protected by the First Amendment. 2/
Will this decision have serious ramifications? Absolutely. But Trump is not being censored in the traditional sense. He’s drunk and being kicked out of the bar because the owners are sick of his behavior. 3/
That being said, social media companies have far too much power in regulating speech on their platforms. There are no constitutional restrictions on these actions. There should be. That’s another topic. 4/
Trump has very clearly incited violence on this platform over the years. His speech would not be protected, even if this was a public space. See Dennis v. United States and Brandenburg v. Ohio for precedent. /end
