I am struggling a little with how to give fair consideration to those who are now turning on #Trump.

I find it hard to get past that the mocking of the disabled reporter right at the start of his 2016 campaign simply should have been the end of it.

There were those who argued for giving him a fair chance after his election.

But a vote for President, given the practical limitations of the office, is a values proposition as much as anything. He had mocked disability, stoked xenophobia and downplayed sexual violence.

I think we have to take those who turned on him, like the Special Envoy to NI (and former Chief of Staff), the benefit of accepting their word when they say Trump’s instigation of an attempted coup was the line they could not cross.

But it wasn’t exactly unexpected!

So no, the truth is all the warning signs were there from the start. Those who worked for or with Trump could not have missed the signs of what they were supporting, or at least tolerating, by doing so.

They played their role in what happened on 6th. They need to own it.
