I know #BrisbaneLockdown 2.0 is a disruption, so I want to thank everyone across greater Brisbane for following the health advice.

Over the past 24 hrs some people have asked why we're doing what we're doing. The facts and stats in this thread should make our reasons clear 👇🏼
We’re fighting the rapacious and highly infectious UK variant of COVID-19, which is up to 70 per cent more transmissible than the earlier virus.

It's regarded as the most serious change to the virus since the epidemic began.
Since the pandemic started there have been 2.5 million COVID cases in England alone – more than the entire population of greater Brisbane.

In the past three days, 183,000 people in the UK have caught COVID – more than the population of the Redlands Shire.
And yesterday, 1325 UK residents died from COVID – the highest daily death toll for the nation so far.

That's equivalent to the entire student population of Woodridge State High School.
We have to take this virus seriously. It’s not mucking around, and we can't muck around either.

So stay safe, and please get tested if you're showing any symptoms: http://qld.gov.au/covid19testing
