Solar panels on canals in India. Doesn’t take extra land, prevents evaporative loss and keeps the solar panels cool. @reddit
This is a $2.5M SunEdison project on Narmada canal in Gujarat, India. It generates 1 MW of clean energy per year and also prevent evaporation of 9,000,000 litres of water annually from the canal. The project virtually eliminates the requirement to acquire vast tracts of land
It limits evaporation of water from the 750 metres (2,460 ft) long canal tackling two challenges simultaneously. More on this project at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canal_Solar_Power_Project
Encouraged by the success of solar canal in India, State of Arizona commissioned a study to place similar solar panels on the Central Arizona Project Canal
