One of the greatest times of my career was at Xtreme Labs. It was the first time I had seen first principles from my Silicon Valley experience applied in Canada, and pushed as far as they could go. So many smart people. It was a pressure cooker to make diamonds. https://twitter.com/karam_n/status/1347442268064657410
I knew mobile, but working as a Product Manager at Xtreme tested me very hard. One day @azizkara pointed out my knowledge of infrastructure wasn’t deep enough. I resolved that day to fix it, and it led me invest the hours to learn enough to later earn a role at Google Cloud.
Having sales and strategy experience, I found a niche as a kind of “Salesy Product Strategy/Manager” guy. I got to spend some time on the road with @SheetalJaitly, who has an admirable tireless energy. I still try every day to bring that same level to my customers.
An avid reader, @fnthawar let me own the company library. We allowed any team member to order any role-relevant book they wanted, and kept it well stocked. I was secretly proud to surprise every woman on the team with a copy of Lean In by @sherylsandberg.
One of the worst mistakes of my career was leaving Xtreme after 7 months to take an executive role. I learned a lot there too, but had to force it. Looking back, I wouldn’t have made the same decision again. I always try to optimize for learning, but hindsight is 20/20.
Since then it’s been great to see the “Xtreme Mafia” go on to do so many great things. I had a great run as well at @connectedio, founded by two Xtreme colleagues @mstern & @DamianMcCabe and got to work again with some beloved Xtreme alumni. Much ❤️ and success to all!
