Another important study (just an abstract for now) with this take home: stop
clearing
homeless
encampments
(unless you’re offering the alternative of private rooms), as recommended by the CDC. #COVID19
(1/)

They did PCR testing for SARS-CoV-2 in over 800 and antibody testing in over 300 people experiencing homelessness in Denver, both those living in shelters and in encampments. (2/)
Positive results were:
SARS-CoV-2 PCR
Shelters: 9%
Encampments: 3%
Antibodies
Shelters: 24%
Encampments: 8%
Differences for shelters and encampments statistically significant for each. (3/)
SARS-CoV-2 PCR

Encampments: 3%
Antibodies

Encampments: 8%

Study also reminds us again that nobody should pat themselves on the back for “a good job” based on low PCR test positive rates unless antibodies are also examined. We have undoubtedly been significantly underestimating the true extent of COVID in homeless populations. (4/)
Racial disparities seen even within the homeless sample — 22% of Black people had antibodies vs 11% of White people. (5/)
