Adolf Hitler led a very similar insurrection, the Beer Hall Putsch. Like today's RWNJs, his (then-marginal) group tried to kidnap a politician + attacked police in an effort to take over the government.

They were defeated, but what were the consequences? Hitler spent less than a year in jail, + used the time to write "Mein Kampf." Once released, he regrouped, with infamous and mortal results.

History is replete with examples of governments that fell because they lacked the backbone to defend their principles by HAMMERING domestic terrorists. Let's not do the same.
