so apple and google pulling/threatening to pull parler demonstrates that a lot of the hate speech isn’t *intrinsic* to social media - with moderation and a, y’know, NO NAZIS policy, deplatforming works.

stats on participation show that when Nazis are forced to go find and build their own platforms, their numbers decrease greatly because most “casual” observers aren’t going to go through the rigamarole of figuring out the new system. this helps with the radicalization problem.

it means that the nazis are more likely to bubble themselves in echo chambers, but with Nazis, that’s a good thing. No audience of folks who could start down a rabbit hole. Finding Nazi stuff should be HARD and should be a *deliberate* choice.

Nazis *should* be deplatformed and banned because the end goal of their “free speech” is GENOCIDE.

Parler’s shithole demonstrates what happens when they’re given free reign. All other voices are disappeared from the sphere of thought.

It is not a free marketplace of ideas if one group’s goal is to eliminate all other speech. The only solution for Nazis needs to be exile and punishment for holding literally genocidal views. There is no “dapper Nazi."

The banning of Trump, the banning of Parler, the coming wave of deplatforming these ideas and this murderous speech, needs to happen if any platform hopes to be sustainable as an actual mechanism for free speech.

This also demonstrates how much these communities depend on the tacit approval of common spaces. QAnon couldn’t have grown without Facebook and Reddit amplifying the shit out of it. Parler had to be invented because other platforms took action and now they’re exiled even further.

There’s no room for Nazis in the public square. Period. And in this still relativley new digital space, we need to be clear that that means there’s no room for Nazis on our social media platforms or message boards.

And yes, I was just about to use the bar analogy. You can’t let them think they’re safe and you’re okay with it.
