I am totally on the side of not wasting time with teaching youth players to bunt. And yes i agree with @devenmorgan and the stance of why it isn’t important and why we should prioritize hitting the ball hard and not wasting at bats etc. BUT beyond that
I notice a mind shift in kids who want to bunt or are encouraged to bunt. They feel like it is easier. And with that would prefer bunting sometimes as they are scared of failing at hitting. This is a problem for me. Our of all the drills and games we play to help our players
If they aren’t confident in what they are doing they will fail. Building confidence is critical for our youth. And not falsely. They need to fail. This is just what i have noticed when kids ask to practice bunting or want to bunt during an at bat.
There is time to learn to bunt. It can wait. Hit with intent. In a LL game a player is lucky if they get 3 at bats. Don’t waste that development opportunity for a base runner.
