This is ominous. SCOTUS will review a California disclosure law that requires political advocacy groups (including dark money organizations) to reveal their top donors. I am very concerned that the conservative majority will strike down the law. https://newrepublic.com/article/156172/far-will-roberts-court-go-protect-shadowy-political-donors https://twitter.com/kimberlyrobinsn/status/1347683879944130560
Read @fordm’s excellent piece on the conservative legal movement’s crusade to establish a constitutional right to dark money, which is now on the brink of victory. https://newrepublic.com/article/156172/far-will-roberts-court-go-protect-shadowy-political-donors
The Supreme Court will also consider whether a school violated the First Amendment when it suspended a student for saying “fuck cheer” on Snapchat. This case has HUGE implications for the rights of students to engage in free speech off-campus. https://www.scotusblog.com/case-files/cases/mahanoy-area-school-district-v-b-l/
You can read the Supreme Court’s full order list here. This term just got a lot more interesting (and frightening, at least to me). https://www.supremecourt.gov/orders/courtorders/010821.zr_h315.pdf
