1) Saturday musings... I thought Sandy Hook would make the US come to its senses about gun laws. It didn’t. I pray, with every fibre of my being, that the events of 12/6/21 (palindrome!) will make them come to their senses about democracy.
2)But a stealth war is being waged on US democracy by its external enemies. & it’s working. It has managed to exploit the “shadow” side of US style democracy: what Americans have never grasped is that as well as being a democracy they are also an EMPIRE. Oh they do looove royalty
3) And now they have a real life Julius Caesar who is harnessing that empire energy and wants to finish off democracy & make himself emperor by divine right. Why do religious ppl back Trump? 4) the ideals and norms of democracy did not begin with the US and they will not end with it. American style democracy- trippin on its sense of its own specialness, entitlement, individualism and greatness - is NOT the “light on the hill”
5) I reckon it’s is the modest, unpretentious, “mediocre”nations like Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan etc that are showing how democracy can and should be done. It’s the ones that just quietly go about their business
6) as the US crumbles under the weight of internal AND external pressure all of these other nations will need to step up & guide the world to safety. NZ is TINY but @jacindaardern has had enormous global impact. There is no need for “greatness”. Give me can-do mediocrity any day
