a last Bowie birthday thread. DB cameos rated. "Bandslam" (2009). Still not sure how this one happened. But Bowie on his laptop in some NYC cafe is one of the endearing DB images of the 2000s, so C+ for that.
"Yellowbeard." (1983) Feels like he was hanging out at the hotel pool and agreed to do this, but solid enough. B-
"The Virgin Soldiers" (1969). 2 seconds of fame for aspiring actor. so absurd it fits the era. (unratable)
LUV Ice Cream advert (1969). a refined, more amazing version of this formula--if he's even in this it's like for a fraction of a second, in a blur of Youth
SpongeBob’s Atlantis SquarePantis (2007). A master turn. A-
"Dream On" (1991). a ghastly "adult" series from the period of HBO they try to shove in the memory hole, but DB as Sir Roland Morecock (har, it's a witty show) is good camp (18 mins in): https://vimeo.com/179642274
"Full Stretch" (1993). elevated by the "I really like Tin MACHINE!" line. B-
"The Snowman" (1982). The contrast of just-back-from-filming-'Mr Lawrence'-in-the-South-Pacific DB, tanned and blonde, with a winter story is a bit jarring, making it the perfect DB Xmas cameo. A
"Zoolander" (2001). Bowie playing "David Bowie"™ is always a delight. A
"Into the Night." (1985). a fascinating one--DB working up a character who you'll glimpse, at times, in Tin Machine songs & into "Outside". A solid A.
Ok the final three. Bronze medalist. "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me." (1992) A perfect DB cameo--he shows up, says something bizarre, vanishes. Also makes his Tin Machine II look seem v surreal.
