The COVID vaccine is a medical miracle, and widespread distribution is going to be critical to getting our state open and back on the path to recovery.

For all my Oakland County friends and neighbors, here’s what we know so far:

1/
If you are a healthcare worker with direct or indirect exposure to patients, or are a resident of a long-term care facility, vaccination is available to you. For our hospital or care facility employees, speak to your employers about ensuring you get vaccinated. 2/
For care facility residents, you should be offered the vaccine by staff (or they should be contacting family/guardians). For healthcare workers not affiliated with a hospital, contact Oakland Co. Health Div. at https://oaklandcountyvaccine.com/  to schedule your vaccine appointment. 3/
As of Monday, 1/11, if you are over 65YO, a frontline first responder, work in childcare or pre-K to high school education, or in homeless shelters or juvenile justice centers, you can get vaccinated as of Monday. Again, schedule your shot at https://oaklandcountyvaccine.com/ . 4/
For folks 18-64 with pre-existing conditions or COVID-risk factors not already covered, your vaccinations should start around May. Anyone not specified will be able to get vaccinated beginning around the fall of this year. 5/
Remember, once you get your COVID shot, be sure to know your next steps! When will you need your COVID booster shot? And where can you come to get it? Who should I call if I start to react poorly to the vaccine? Ask questions right there and then! 6/
This vaccine won’t be a cure-all. We all know that. Each of us needs to continue to do our part: Masking up, staying home to stay safe when we can, avoiding unnecessary travel, washing our hands regularly, and getting tested and isolating if we begin to display symptoms. 7/
The vaccine rollout is going to take a while -- we all know as much. Some patience will be key, since vaccines and appointments are limited. Remember to show grace to our health dept. workers who are trying to manage this rollout and get people vaccinated. 8/
Folks should know that these plans are all subject to change, and I hope that with support from President-elect @JoeBiden, Michigan will receive even more help from the Feds to vaccinate even more people by the end of this year than is planned right now. 9/
If you have a question about getting vaccinated or whether you’re eligible at a certain time, be sure to visit http://Michigan.gov/COVIDvaccine  or https://www.oakgov.com/covid/best-practices/prepare/Pages/vaccine.aspx. 10/
Vigilance is even more key now. We’ve already lost 12,000 Michiganders through this crisis, and we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Stay safe, wear a mask, and get tested. 11/
