. @nbashaw wrote a very good essay about the strategy behind Content, but it didn't include any practical suggestions

Here are some ideas https://divinations.every.to/p/why-content-is-king
1. Scale Economies

Pick a content niche that doesn't need high production quality

Good - niche industry analysis, technical education

Bad - world news, video games
2. Network Economies

To take off, you'll need to create your own Schelling Point

This can either be a concept you come up with (Aggregation Theory) or the story you're telling about the world
3. Counter Positioning

Pick a competitor that has a large, older audience. Sell to the younger segment that isn't being served well

Example - siphoning off younger fans from regular sports to e-sports
4. Switching Costs

It takes a while for people to get invested in your brand

One shortcut might be to create a unique format for your content, so that fans find it easier to consume your content vs others
5. Branding

Consumers care about branding when quality is uncertain, or they want to use the brand to signal things about themselves

Quality might be harder to nail at the beginning

Picking what your brand stands for makes it easy for fans to align themselves with you
6. Cornered Resource

This is more of a defensive concept

Don't start a media company where you're reliant on the creative output of one of your employees (HQ Trivia)

Produce the content yourself, or bring in multiple creators to contribute
7. Process Power

Work on your process for creating content early on

Otherwise you'll run into scaling issues - your audience will be growing, but your content won't be getting better at the same rate
