Social media users are claiming that 0 rioters were arrested on January 6 in connection with the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. This is not true, but the lack of arrests is staggering.
On the day of the insurrection, Capitol Police made a mere 14 arrests and MPD made 61, only 3 of whom were not charged with curfew violation.
From the night of May 30, 2020 to the morning of June 3, 2020, the peak period for racial equality protests this summer, 427 people were arrested in D.C. on unrest-related charges.
The two groups are incomparable in mission, but the difference in the DC police response is striking.
