So, to vaccinate against Covid19 or not? I was against it initially, having been tested on non humans it can not be described as vegan. I even came out and said I would not have it. But I changed my mind and here is why.
I work in care, not as a carer a maintenance bod, but I work with vulnerable people and with those who care for vulnerable people. I have responsibilities to them, and of course to those I love.
It wasn't an easy decision, all manner of conflicts played through my mind. The one thing, which kept repeating itself was my responsibilities to others. What if by not having the vaccine I was responsible for the death of any one of the people with whom I come into contact?
This damned virus has claimed more than enough lives already, I will not be responsible, through ignorance or arrogance, for one more. I don't believe as a vegan, my freedoms are more important than another's life.
This was not done for myself, it was done for others, like wearing a mask, washing my hands, using sanitiser, distancing, staying at home except when I work, not visiting my family, not cuddling my granddaughter, not doing many of the things I would like to.
We shout every day about exploitation, about rights, about equality. I believe that by having the vaccination I am standing up for the rights of others to live, that they are, almost exclusively human, is of no import.
