SHORT THREAD, TRADERS PLS READ/SHARE:

I totally understand that some people are angry right now, but there is a bunch of misinformation being spread on here about the removal of IPDs. It's unhelpful. Let's take a deep breath and walk through the key issues. 1/8

1. "The removal of IPDs has nothing to do with expansion into Germany."

This is a fair thought, since it is not immediately clear why they should be connected. However, it is NOT true. I've already highlighted the link between IPDs & Germany here:

2. "FI will never ACTUALLY launch in Germany, they are just saying that to keep us interested."

This is a favourite among the cynics. I have been on FI since 2016. In that time they have expanded successfully in Ireland, Canada & New Zealand, and unsuccessfully in Sweden... 3/8
(2. cont) Germany is a different kettle of fish, it's true. But there's no reason to think it's not possible, or that they're not even trying. Last year, FI were hiring German speakers.

Germany has complex gambling laws. Don't expect anything overnight. Or even this year. 4/8
3. "FI have removed IPDs because they couldn't afford the payouts."

This gets said a lot but it's never clear what it's based on!

IPDs are probably v lucrative for FI: loads of traders getting stuck with 34yo French CBs at a 50% loss, having recouped barely 20% in IPDs... 5/8
(3. cont). I am sure there are many excellent traders who trade profitably for IPDs. But for every good trader there are 5 more trigger-happy gamblers who make rash in-play decisions and get burned.

Either way, FI will not have taken the decision to remove IPDs lightly. 6/8
4. "Value has gone from half the market."

We don't know enough info to make this claim yet. Let's at least WAIT to see what the "new incentives" are that will replace IPDs before we scream that half our shares are worthless. At this point, it's just unhelpful scaremongering. 7/8
As I say, I understand traders' anger. Comms from FI have been poor recently. During a transition phase like this, that's bad form. And it's particularly hard to keep calm when there's money at stake.

But we MUST stop drumming up fear & panic on here. No-one benefits. 8/8
