Nostalgia for America - Washington DC, in happier times - January 2003. Feel incredibly sad about the last few days. DC was a second home during my research and the publication of my ‘first’ book. Some snaps from back then:

From the ground - had not felt that cold for a long time. Had a hot dog by the underground station - a little piece of goodness that warmed the toes. A passing dude jokingly called me a Limey because I asked for tomato sauce!
Friends gave me a ride to the archive to finish the last bits and pieces. It was like driving on glass:
Carlisle was snowbound but work continued. The US Army was so helpful and open to full and frank discussion:
New York was particularly chilly, visiting an area I once used to work in before 911:
The trip to the island was so cold my hands shook taking these pictures:
The transit area where so many millions passed through to the ‘new world’ including some of my relatives:
The spirit of Liberty - the symbol of the American people in times of crisis. Trump and his cheap cult cannot break that spirit - although this was a bleak week, America will heal - feel very confident about that:
