Hey artists friends, especially young artists!
Your prices for your commission work that will be used for profit should be HIGHER than your prices for commissions for personal use
If your art will be used for commercial use you have to charge more. Way too often I see artists linking their commissions for personal use prices under paid (commercial) job postings. DON'T do that
If you're getting commissioned for commercial use (example: anything that goes into twitch, youtube, branding, comics, promotional art, etc), better negotiate your prices in private (preferably email)
Don't let people take advantage of you. Never sell your art for commercial use for the same price you'd be selling, say, an icon commission for a friend. If you do, they're definitely taking advantage of you.
(I do have a history of undercharging my art so I get it! You're broke and you don't want to scare clients away. Still, your work deserves proper compensation! Get that fair pay!)
PS: I'm not taking personal commissions (rarely do) but if you want to hire me for illustration work shoot me an email 🤠 https://twitter.com/vianerds/status/1316073733593866240?s=19
