Prioritizing speed and performance is a cultural choice companies make. Hard to fix it later.

At Airbnb there would be an entire team dedicated improving performance. Many of their gains were nullified soon after by another team adding something that slowed things down again
Speed being a cultural value means that every team and leadership should care about it, even when it makes projects to take more time
- Not using 3rd party services
- Avoiding bloated libraries
- Architecting app foundation for performance
- Hiring perf oriented folks
It's also understanding the app usage and landing patterns. You might have to make tradeoffs, where you optimize the common pathways points even if it slows down some other pathways. For example, for an email app, the first load speed is not as important as for an ecommerce site
