When talking about the failed #GOPCoupAttempt at the Capitol this week, please do your Muslim friends a favor and avoid using the word "terrorism"

Through the so-called war on terror, the right has so successfully racialized the terrorism frame that even when the word is used to describe white supremacist violence against Muslims and BIPOC communities, it still leads to a rise in anti-Muslim sentiment
Even policies that supposedly enacted in response to "domestic terrorism" by white supremacists are used primarily to further surveil, harass, and criminalize Muslims, Arabs, and South Asians. We shouldn't legitimize a frame that ultimately is only used to harm us.
If you’re looking for alternatives, @rethink_media offers sound advice: DON’T use “terrorist”; DO use “insurrectionist” or “violent mob” or “white supremacist”.
According to @rethink_media, "'Terrorism' has a very specific connotation in the minds of general media audiences: foreigners, brown people, and Muslims. 'Insurrection' evokes a violent uprising against a government."
