These jokes are shitty because they come from a place of privilege. There’s a vast difference between the humour of the marginalised as a coping mechanism to get through the hard times, and what is being done here where folks show us who they really are in a time of crisis
If your first desire is for more cops, if your first impulse is to self promote, if your first impulse is to be louder than those who are most affected, then you’ve got a shit ton of privilege to check, if not outright bigotry to re-examine.
Really, this is me just once again saying what others wiser than I always reiterate:
When folks show you who they are, listen.

If you see an expert marketer who brags about how well he plays the twitter game from his little foxhole of privilege show support of a traitorous, dangerous senator, don’t let him try to lie about it and say it was an oopsie when it’s in line with his past practices and beliefs.
Call them the fuck out, cut them fuck off, there’s no playing around with this shit. And if you didn’t realise that before, i.e. you didn’t listen to BIMPOC and Jewish folks about Nazism before, I damn sure hope you do now.
And if you’re friends with folks who are cracking these jokes, call them in. And if they refuse that then use, cut them off too. True friends will accept your words and grow from them, will listen to you and learn. And if you won’t call them in, especially if you’re white...
