#OnThisDay #OTD January 8, 1995, "Homer the Great" first aired on the Fox network. Dir: Jim Reardon. Wr: @JJSwartzwelder. EP: @DaveMirkin. Guest-starring @SirPatStew as "Number One". #TheSimpsons
The song "We Do" was not included in the original script and was suggested by Matt Groening. It was written by the writers' room, who threw in as many things that annoyed them as they possibly could.
Mirkin has said that @SirPatStew is "one of the best guest performances" because "he was so committed to [the] character". Stewart called his Simpsons appearance "distinguished" in a 2000 interview with BBC News.
