Thoughts about @CMAgovUK's investigation of Google's potential privacy measures.
First, I told the @CMAgovUK when I was at Brave that enforcement is needed against Google's internal data free-for-all. https://twitter.com/johnnyryan/status/1229760946609897473?s=20

Second, the @CMAgovUK has been put in a difficult position by @ICOnews' failure to do its job.
If the ICO enforced data protection law in the advertising technology market, publishers could be competing with Google on a level playing field. https://brave.com/competition-internal-external/

Third, small unlawful tracking companies complain to the CMA about big unlawful tracking companies on competition grounds. But the present online advertising and data market is dysfunctional, harmful, and lawless. It needs reform, not protection.
Fourth, the solution is to enforce GDPR Article 5(1)b against internal data free-for-alls inside Google and other "big tech", and Article 5(1)f against tracking firms of all sizes. Without this, our media will not be sustainable https://vimeo.com/371652420
