Med students to be, I'm making this thread to tell you what I think you should know about #medschool Letting you know just how stressful it is, so you can make an informed choice, well, as informed as it can get.
In #medschool, there are 3 parts:
The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly.
Personally, The Good for me isn’t just graduating as a medical doctor, it’s way more than that. It’s being in class and finally getting the explanation to a seemingly bootless bodily function; anexplanation you didn’t even know you needed. It’s realizing that a piece of paper
1/
doesn’t in any way define you. It’s the joy you feel when you see your name on that list- the ‘you have satisfied the board list’. It’s opening your mind to endless possibilities.

2/
The Bad is really what you already know. It’s the fear of failure, the fear of disappointment, of letting your parents down. The pressure of living up to the tag of medical student. The whirlwind of emotions you feel when you hear that result has been pasted.
3/
The physical pain in your chest when on first glance, your name is absent. It’s the overwhelming stress, all day, every day, for the rest of your life.

4/
Now The Ugly, that’s the shit they never tell you about. The stuff you’ll never know until you’re in too deep. No one ever tells you that you’ll become hesitant to pick up your phone because you don’t want to be on call.
5/
No one tells you about how you’ll cry so many times when you think about insults from ward rounds. No one tells you how your days will slip away into a miasma of school-reading-some more school; or the days you’ll close so late and you don’t know why your head hurts, hunger or
6/
fatigue. Or is it the permanent headache?

The variety of mental health challenges we all face? Don’t worry, there’s a pool, you’ll pick one. The way your personal relationships decline? Or the lifestyle you have to live during MB period? And this isn’t even the half of it.

7/
Now this is not to deter you from actualizing your dreams of becoming a doctor, no, this is way more than that. This is to make you question yourself, are you sure you want to do this? This is to repaint that picture you have, retell that story you’ve heard.
8/
Because once you join, you’re in it for life. Double check. And if your answer is still yes, welcome aboard, you won’t regret it.
