I think it's genuinely scandalous that universities can offer journalism degrees without informing prospective applicants that the industry-standard (in the UK) is the NCTJ.
I should add to this, that you don't NEED a degree or an NCTJ to be a successful journalist. But if you are going to do a degree, be mindful that lots of job roles expect you to be NCTJ accredited. So do bear this in mind when choosing UCAS choices!
Literally the only reason I am tweeting this at all is because as the editor of a platform for young journos I keep getting asked whether a journo qualification is worth it etc. and this is the main bit of advice I have for anyone weighing up all the options!!
As helpfully pointed out by senior journalism lecturer @Matt_Walsh - NCTJ refers to news industry-standard, broadcast is BJTC and magazine journalism is PPA / NCTJ

Definitely advise familiarising yourself with these bodies before spending any time on an application or £ on fees
