My sister and I who were born in Dominican Republic did horrible on the SATs. My brothers who were both American born, and who had siblings who spoke English, did much better than my sister and I. My youngest brother got into Penn State while I struggled to get into Shippensburg.
My sister struggled to get into Lock Haven. Again, when you open the door for one person you make it easier for everyone else who comes behind them. So yes to Affirmative Action, yes to opportunity for those who may not otherwise get it. One open door breaks generational curses
Or stops those curses from happening all together. Hard work and affirmative action aren’t mutually exclusive terms. You’re not rewarding laziness, you’re recognizing inequality.
