I see this Joshua Potash guy around. I'm sure he's well intentioned. But in the end he's just a vessel for the latest meme.

This is what social media does to you, and I worry about what that has done to public political thought. 1/ https://twitter.com/JoshuaPotash/status/1347277542588297217
I'm amazed at the ideological cohesion that is being generated between platforms like twitter, powerful layers of civil society and the state. For the last 48 hours BBC and CNN have sounded like twitter - and it's hard to tell who is informing who. But its all crazy 2/
I think some on the radical left have convinced themselves our ideas are 'winning' in some of those more official layers. Like maybe the BBC, under the force of events in DC, now see we were right, or something. Wrong - *they* are hegemonising *us* 3/
And it really matters if people who think they are the political dissidents, or aspire to that roll, think and talk and act like CNN, or BBC The Social. It means they are performing the ruling ideology 4/
As a rule of thumb, the more hysterical the tenor of the conversation, the more rhetorically and superficially radical it seems, the more conservative the political conclusions you are being led to 5/
Brexit was a fascist 'coup' as well. It would inaugurate disasters, economic and social. It had to be resisted no matter what. Actual conclusion - support the status quo, support the objectives of the British state and EU 6/
And what is the response to the 'fascist coup' of Trumpism we are being rallied to by twitter, and corporate media? Back Joe Biden and his Wall street Democrats as they restore order to wonderful, democratic America 7/
For anyone tempted to think 'Well, Trumps lot are getting a kicking and that's good. We will ride the backlash, ignore the lies and fantasy while the goings good' - I'm afraid that's a path to disaster. The cant just goes on and on, drawing you into its web of responsibilities 8
Lots of people are making it clear that so long as there is a far right threat (which is absolutely always) that will take priority over any kind of programmatic response to the establishment. The stupidity is that this stance is helping both the establishment and far right 9/9
