Logic, hip hop’s nice guy,
(a thread):
Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, mainly known as Logic, is a retired rapper from Maryland, in the USA. he’s had a very interesting career and as a fan, and as someone who likes making threads, i’d like to break it down because looking back, it’s been a rollercoaster for the guy.
Mixtape mastermind:
Logic’s run of mixtapes is easily one of the best i’ve ever seen, it’s a shame people don’t talk about them as much as his other projects, just because they’re not on spotify. truly amazing sets of work by an exciting talent on the come up of greatness.
XXL:
back when it meant something, Logic was a XXL freshman, alongside a lot of talented artists that he would go on to befriend, like Joey Bada$$ and Travis Scott.
breakout:
Logic released Under Pressure in 2014, his first studio album and most of his fans consider this to be his best. he shines as an MC here and his choice of instrumentals are reminiscent of rap legends who he takes influence from. revisiting this was certainly nostalgic.
out of this world:
in 2015, Logic released The Incredible True Story. sonically the instrumentals are nicer and more lush, i love the concept of space on this one. slick bars, amazing production, this lived up to the standards made by everyone after UP. this is a fan favourite.
versatility:
in 2016, Logic proved to the world that he’s not just here to be a lyrical miracle, he also wants to have fun in the summer like everyone else. this mixtape has BANGERS. flexicution is one of my most streamed songs of all time. a very smart change of pace.
commercial:
in 2017, Logic released Everybody, an album that conceptually speaks on important issues in society and his own issues growing up. 1-800 broke the industry with its message, and it’s his biggest song to this day, with 1 billion streams on spotify. impacted millions.
continuous success:
after there was pressure on him to drop something that will cement his place in the game, he dropped Bobby Tarantino II in 2018 and it’s a great sequel, giving him his second no. 1 album in less than a year. loads of club bangers on this. man is unstoppable.
return to form:
Logic also dropped YSIV in 2018 which was the fourth instalment of the young sinatra series. he lives up to that old style he used to have, and there’s some good songs on this, bar for bar, he shows he’s still a great MC after dropping BT2. nice beats too.
2019:
this year was certainly a tough time for Logic, he released two albums (COADM and supermarket). COADM went No. 1 with hits like homicide, featuring eminem. however critics didn’t enjoy this as much as other projects and it must’ve been difficult for him to see the feedback.
redemption:
2020 saw logic having one of the biggest redemption arcs i’ve ever seen in hip hop, with the release of No Pressure, a sequel to UP. everyone loved this album. his best in my opinion. production is top tier. heard em say is one of his best songs. immaculate work here.
retirement:
he also announced his retirement on stream. that was an emotional moment man. i’ve been around to have seen this man’s whole career and it’s sad to see him leave, but i’m truly happy for him and wish the best for him and his family. the end of an era.
