There's free speech under the law and a culture of free speech. The culture of free speech is benefited from not quashing speech you disagree with, but in having more speech to counter it.

Something ticks you off, try biting your tongue and listening and waiting until you find something they agree with. Latch on to that and try to build off it for an area of agreement. Helps to ratchet down the tension and you usually learn something to boot.

Had an angry caller this morning that just be letting him go off, he said something I agreed with and then we worked from there. Was a really nice moment I thought.
