A violent mob IS a bomb. The KKK consistently used mobs to intimidate and destroy democratic hopes. Some ppl are the fuse, some the accelerant, some the wires, some just count down, and some are the explosive. On 1/6 we saw an đź’Ą of ... 1/n
the device Trump and others in the GOP along with extremist groups have coordinated to build with disinformation. They deployed this human bomb (and a few literal ones) to the Capitol. They used social media platforms to create, collect, and connect the parts together 2/n
They used in-person speeches to light the fuse and direct its energy more precisely. It was a group effort. With leaders (Donald Trump), deputies (Hawley, Cruz, other Trumps), and many willing participants. There were others that saw what was happening ... 3/n
and did not ring alarms or turn anyone in. There were those that rang alarms and those that plugged their ears. Some raised money for or recruited parts. This was not a secret. Even further, we know the idea of people as bombs is not new to police ... 4/n
When minorities mobilize for peaceful change, with truth at their backs and seeking justice honestly, they are mistaken for a bomb, and met with violence (protests are a balm not a bomb). In addition, when lightening strikes and illuminates true injustice that enrages, ... 5/n
some turn violent. This is dangerous, but it is not a bomb. A bomb is not naturally occurring. It is the consequence of intentional twisting of facts and material into unnatural shapes. The builder manipulates and influences. Lies are the tools of these human bomb makers. Why? 6/n
Because they are easy. You concoct the “fact” that moves people to the position you want them in the bomb casing. That is why tolerating lies in a democracy, without social or political penalty, is so dangerous. Once you allow enough lies in sufficient directions, ... 7/n
the truly dishonorable control a hall of mirrors (now in pixels but no less disorienting), instead of being constrained by reality like the rest of us. We need reality to shine through and ensure it is discernible from the fiction. But that ship has sailed, what do we do now...8/n
When someone has built a bomb, you either 1) let a controlled explosion destroy its potential energy or 2) you defuse it, disconnecting its parts. This bomb is much larger than 1/6, but there is still time to defuse it, with truth and consequence: 9/n
by snipping the red wire and separating the leader from the levers of power, through social media, search, and editorial boards ceasing to be the connections and accelerant for collective hate based on lies, through social pressure to push back against the lies. 10/n
Perhaps most importantly, we need clear evidence that the lies are false. Some will never believe, but others will. We must solve the problems that are driving distrust. This is not a fringe movement:1/2 of the GOP seem to be connected to the bomb or ok with it 11/n
1 of the jobs of the next Congress is 2 give people, next Thanksgiving and holiday season(if not before) evidence that Washington cares. Arguments need to be won with truth and the levers of government need to be worn bare in the effort to ensure that this truth is convincing 12/n
We all have a part to play in defusing this bomb. Your family, your friends , your 161 fellow house members have actively been lied to and manipulated in the pursuit of power. We need a coordinated response to diffuse the hatred, 13/n
leaders in government need to supply the evidence that the system is working for all people, and those in influential positions need to sanction disinformation (especially within our own social and political groups). 14/n
But perhaps most importantly, we must give people something else to connect to. Not a void instead of the radical bomb, but a way to contribute to solutions and each other. The extremist networks on 1/6 was a human bomb-
engineered with lies. We have ignored it for too long /fin
