I want to thank all of the North Texans who have reached out to me, my family, and my office offering your support and prayers. I will admit that I am still shaken by what happened at the Capitol, and suspect I will be for some time.
I have spoken before about being chased by a group of young men when I was 13 threatening to kill me and hang me from a tree. The blind hatred I saw on the faces of the rioters has brought back those memories & more. Seeing a mob waving the Confederate flag was & is traumatizing.
What is clear is that every single person who stormed the Capitol should be identified, arrested, and tried. The use of violence for a political aim is terrorism, and they are domestic terrorists. The delay in pursuing these arrests is unacceptable and must also be investigated.
To the rank and file Capitol Police who risked and gave their lives to defend me, my colleagues and our democracy, I can only say thank you. It is becoming increasingly clear that you should not have been put in that position and a full inquiry is needed to find out why you were.
Finally, to my constituents who have asked what I intend to do, I will support any constitutional action that removes President Trump from office—including impeachment. I have been in intense discussions with my colleagues about the next best step forward and we will act soon.
