If you want to be depressed, let me tell you why things are going to get worse:

On Wednesday there was a single cheer that united the Capitol mob, "CNN sucks"

On 5/29, BLM protesters trashed CNN's ATL headquarters

On a certain level, we all understand our sickness

The arguments against the media (legacy & social) are well trod

Yet even if our news consisted of only Jim Leher & Charlie Rose, the unprecedented creep of politics into every single facet of life has too many stakeholders to be turned back
Its no coincidence that the decline of community ties has coincided w/ a rise of "politics is important"

The below passage from Michael Lind (via @sullydish ) absolutely nails it
At core though, no in DC cares about their supporters

I have never ONCE heard Congressional Staff Assistants or LCs describe their constituents w/ anything other than pity (at best), its mostly outright contempt

Politics won't save you b/c politicians don't care
We used to have a healthy distrust of politicians; we just thought they were crooked. That didn't engender hate, just wariness

But now that we look to politicians to save us (or protect us from the otherside) we've elevated ppl who don't deserve it
On election twitter we devote energy to politics as a hobby: this (imo) is the healthiest way to look at it

If I weren't obsessing about early voter age demos, I'd be making a spray chart for Brett Gardner against LHPs

This stuff IS a game, not a crusade
TL;dr The political ecosystem is too lucrative & infiltrated every facet of life

Covid forced ppl home and are getting radicalized (by both sides) about things that don't matter

Politics is not moral salvation; its a best a game & if you forget that, you're part of the problem
