the way the twitter left fetishizes rural/working class/blue collar white republicans is really something to behold.
there's this idea that all "we" have to do is talk to them and they'll immediately change and support progressive policies and it's rooted in the fact that most of the twitter left has NO FUCKING IDEA about what it means to be working class et al.
we have this idea in our heads that trump supporters are poor and live in rural areas when the reality is they're your next door neighbors in that upper-middle class suburb who are doing JUST fine.
an anecdote: if you looked at my father (a vet from rural GA who owns guns and hunts) and my sister and BIL(ORVs, mechanic, silver lake sand dunes) from an outside perspective, you'd probably assume they were trump supporters. And guess what? So do Trump supporters.
here's the kicker: because of my dad's and sister's family's hobbies and where they live, they come into contact with SO MANY TRUMP SUPPORTERS. these people are NOT poor. My parents and sister live in the same city. they have VERY EXPENSIVE HOBBIES. y'all just really should stop
Basically - stop giving racist white people the benefit of the doubt and thinking you can change them because they’re really just “economically anxious” and need someone to make them understand what’s good for them. There’s a REASON you think they’re redeemable - their whiteness.
AND ANOTHER THING: the thing about the white working class/poor Trump voter is they don’t care about anyone else but making sure WHITE PEOPLE have what they need to succeed without those pesky POC getting in the way.
And since my mom reads my twitter she wanted me to add the upper-middle class suburban Catholic hypocrite Trump voters who only vote one issue.
