We risk losing hedgerows if we ignore their lifecycles and just manage them the same way every year.

Hedges are a dynamic system and need dynamic management to suit
It is impossible to keep a hedge at any one state indefinitely without causing structural decline
It may be as little as every 40 years, but all hedges need rejuvenation at some point, no matter how well managed
